Requiem Music Director Choir and Orchestra of the Novaya Opera Ex Oriente Lux vocal ensemble Artistic Director and Conductor Anastasia Bondareva Declamation Dina Kirnarskaya The programme comprises Gregorian Requiem and Mozart's Requiem. Mozart’s Requiem is a very important chapter in the history of music. It is related to a whole bunch of themes: the sinister Man in Black, the no less sinister Salieri whose innocence was finally proved as late as at the end of the 20th century… Misterious ominous feelings, a masterpiece finished by a disciple… But how did Mozart create his Requiem in reality? He was inspired, it goes without saying, but he also had a deep knowledge of the source, the Gregorian Mass for the dead, which was a reference point for all the composers who worked in this field. Tonight we have a rare opportunity to compare canon and variation, the exemplary Gregorian Requiem and Mozart’s masterpiece. The two musical worlds will be performed in different ways, by the Ex oriente lux vocal ensemble (Gregorian Requiem) and by the New Opera Theatre’s choir, orchestra and soloists (Mozart’s Requiem). |
