| | | | | In the Mirror Foyer 27 November’16 Sunday 19:00 Little Russian Shakespeariana An evening of vocal music The programme “A Little Russian Shakespeariana” prepared by musical critic, pianist and Novaya Opera’s literary manager Mikhail Segelman is an artistic study of the Shakespearian theme in the Russian chamber vocal, operatic and theatrical music of the 19th and 20th centuries. The composers under study range from those of Glinka’s times (Alexander Alyabiev, Alexander Varlamov) to our contemporaries. Famous masterpieces (Duet of Romeo and Juliet from Tchaikovsky’s unfinished music to Shakespeare’s tragedy of the same name; works by Dmitri Shostakovich and Georgy Sviridov) alternate with pieces which are practically never performed (excerpts from Anton Arensky’s music to a production of The Tempest, Aram Khachaturian’s music to Sergei Yutkevich’s film Othello). The concert will also include excerpts from pieces by Alexander Zhurbin (provided by the author) and David Krivitzky (provided by the author’s inheritors). |
