| | | | | In the Mirror Foyer 27 March’15 Friday 19:00 Soiree of Pyotr Tchaikovksy's Romances Concert of Novaya Opera soloists By popular request the Novaya Opera repeats Tchaikovsky’s Romances in the Mirror Foyer on World Theatre Day. With this concert, first presented during the Epiphany Festival at Novaya Opera, we commemorate the 175th anniversary of Tchaikovsky’s birth. Tchaikovsky’s Romances are not just a major part of his legacy but also an apex of Russian vocal lyric. Tchaikovsky composed romances all his life. Most of his chamber vocal works were written to the lyrics of his contemporaries, Russian poets of the 19th century: Aleksey Pleshcheyev, Aleksey Tosltoy, Daniil Ratgauz, Aleksey Apukhtin, Afanasy Fet to mention but a few. Pyotr Tchaikovsky wrote many compositions to poems by Heinrich Heine and Johann Goethe, translated by Lev Mei, Feodor Tyutchev and Mikhail Mikhailov. Some of the romances the composer wrote to his own texts. The programme presented by Novaya Opera leading soloists is a world of Tchaikovsky’s romances: from his early works to late masterpieces.
