| Alexandra Saulskaya-Shulyatieva, mezzo-soprano, graduated from the Kazan State Conservatory (Tatarstan) in 1993. After her debut as Lel in Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Snow Maiden she joined the Dgalil Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre (Tatarstan) in 1992. Starting from 1994 she also worked at the Udmurt State Opera and Ballet Theatre. In the two theatres she performed leading parts such as Carmen in Bizet’s Carmen, Pauline in Tchaikovsky’s The Queen of Spades, Olga in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, Konchakovna in Borodin’s Prince Igor, Cherubino in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro and Siebel in Gounod’s Faust. She was honoured with the Best Role award for her interpretation of the Princess in Dargomyzhsky’s Rusalka and Rosina in Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia. In the spring of 2001 she sang Mistress Quickly in the production of Verdi’s Falstaff in Kazan (directed by Erik Vos and conducted by Marco Boemi) and participated in its opening tour in Europe. She made her Novaya Opera debut as Ratmir in Glinka’s Ruslan and Lyudmila in 1995 and joined the theatre in 2001.
She has participated in the following arts projects: Prokofiev’s Ivan the Terrible, the Nordic Triad (conductor Gennady Rozhdestvensky), Verdi’s Requiem and Mahler’s Symphony No 2 (with the Cairo Symphony Orchestra), Verdi’s Rigoletto (in concert, conductor Michael Güttler), Rimsky-Korsakov’s May Night (conductor Mikhail Pletnyov), Verdi’s Falstaff, and Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess (conductor Marco Boemi). She has taken part in international music festivals in Norway, Iceland, Estonia and Bulgaria and performed in concerts during the Days of Russian Culture in Lithuania, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Hungary. The singer has toured in Italy, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, Belgium, Portugal, Israel and Cyprus. Jointly with the Novaya Opera Orchestra she participated in the tour of the Symphonic Mania show across France. She is a permanent guest singer of the Osipov Folk Instruments Orchestra. Since 2012, she has been a guest singer of the Bolshoi Theater. Alexandra Saulskaya-Shulyatieva has her name entered in the books Udmurt Women. 20th Century (2002) and Udmurt Multiethnic Stage Culture (2014).
