Acclaimed director, contemporary painter and set designer Achim Freyer (trained by Bertolt Brecht) has created several productions of Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, believing that this opera provides infinite food for thought and fantasy. At the Novaya Opera, Achim Freyer has staged an absolutely new, fifth production of Die Zauberflöte, in which he reveals the formula of the game:
“This is a popular game of Love and Power. Between these two antipodes we determined our existence. Together with the foreign prince Tamino, the audience will embark on a journey over the sacred sun circle, through the system of regularities, privations, hopes, trials, liberation and destruction. This is the process of human formation, which is full of passion and fear and in which Love and Power are as strong as Death”.
