The
Tribute to Evgeny Kolobov concert is dedicated to the outstanding Russian conductor. It is our tribute to the memory of the great Maestro, our homage to his talent.
He was a conductor with a God-given talent, a “prophet”, a “philosopher”, a “magician bringing music to life”. Music was his treasure, his vocation and the meaning of his life. Endowed with “refined taste and kind humour”, he possessed a wonderful faculty that only geniuses may have, i.e. universality. Evgeny Kolobov was an offbeat artist, a trailblazer in Russian art, an innovator in interpreting classical operas, a master of orchestration and a distinguished conductor.
The concert programme comprises pieces orchestrated by the Maestro. The first part includes Schumann’s Mary Stuart Songs, Haydn’s The Wanderer and Fidelity, Gluck’s A Melody, Handel’s Dignare and three versions of Ave Maria by Schubert, Saint-Saëns and Caccini. The compositions will be performed by the Novaya Opera’s best sopranos and mezzo-sopranos.
In the second part of the concert, leading baritones of the Novaya Opera will sing the following romances: Glinka’s “I Just Recall this Wondrous Instant…”; Shashina’s “I Come out to the Path, Alone”; Bulakhov’s The Date, Yakovlev’s Elegy; Malashkin’s “Oh, Could I in Song Tell My Sorrow…” and everyone’s favourate “Coachman, Spare Your Horses” by Feldman. The programme also includes Chopin’s and Griboedov’s waltzes, Glinka’s La separation and the famous Adagio by Albinoni.
