This production joins two masterpieces of world music culture, Carmina Burana by Carl Orff and Bolero by Maurice Ravel

The first act – LUCEM – is an ode to Man’s power of fighting Destiny, set to Ravel’s music. Every note in Bolero makes the dancers express the sensuality and power of this marvelous music.

The second act – FORTUNA – is based on Orff’s Carmina Burana. For the first time in the history of musical theatre, a choreographic plot is based on the full version of the poetic collection Carmina Burana that inspired Carl Orff to create his masterpiece.

The project earlier featured stars of the Bolshoi Theatre: People’s Artist of Russia Anna Antonicheva and Honoured Artist of Russia Andrey Merkuriev, and Honoured Artist of Russia Anastasia Pershenkova, a soloist of the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Music Theatre.

In his new production Francesco Ventriglia unfolds step by step the true nature of his characters, and we just have to look as closely as possible at each plane of the magic body movement, and even identify ourselves with the ballet characters to connect with the secrets of the Goddess Fortuna.

The New Ballet Theatre has existed in Moscow for a quarter of a century. In 2012, when Pavel Nestratov joined the theatre, the company entered a new stage of its creative life. The primary aim that the new director defined was to create narrative dance performances rendered in the contemporary choreography idiom. In the summer of 2013 the company honourably represented Russia and Moscow at the Russian Art Festival in Cannes, closing it with a big two-act ballet, Elusive Beauty. The theatre did a brilliant job, astonishing the sophisticated audience of the Cote d'Azur andattracting attention of the French and Russian press.

Today the company consists of creative young dancers, who have won a number of the most prestigious awards in choreography.
