The divertissement Rossini is a monograph in sound, a “book” about an artist’s life, a vivid portrait of a creator of invaluable treasures. It is a cascade of interchanging virtuoso numbers comprising solo, ensemble, choral and orchestral pieces. They provide a brilliant musical realization of the epithets given to Gioacchino Rossini by the world’s most prominent artists – “heavenly Rossini” by Pushkin, “the sun of Italy” by Heine, “the glory of Italy” by Verdi, “operatic genius” by Asafyev…
This disk contains fragments of the musical divertissement Rossini, including overtures, arias and ensemble pieces from the operas L’Italiana in Algeri, Guillaume Tell, La Cenerentola, Mosè in Egitto; sacred music: the Introduction from Stabat Mater and Agnus Dei from Petite Messe Solennelle, and a comic duet of two cats.
