In the first part, the Maestro will present an original composition combining the music by the 20th century British classic, Sir William Walton to Laurence Olivier’s films Henry V (1944) and Hamlet (1948) and excerpts from the Shakespeare tragedies. Sir Laurence acted as director, screen writer, producer and actor in both films. He won an Academy Award for the role of Hamlet. Walton’s brilliant music to the films has since lived a life of its own, being often performed in concerts as orchestral suites. The second part of the concert comprises the complete version of Mendelssohn’s incidental music to Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream complemented by excerpts from the original text. The soloists are Victoria Shevtsova and Elizaveta Soina.
