The Novaya Opera Theatre sadly announces the death of Natalya Popovich, People's Artist of Russia and Chief Choirmaster of the theatre in 1991–2017.

Together with the outstanding Russian conductor Evgeny Kolobov, Natalya Popovich was one of the founders of the Novaya Opera Theatre in 1991. In 1991–2017 she was the leader of the Novaya Opera choir. The choir's repertoire comprises over 20 operatic works of foreign and Russian composers, a capella sacred music, large-scale cantatas and oratorios.

Natalya Popovich was the author of the ideas of several dramatized performances (Bravissimo!, Viva Verdi! to name a few). On her initiative the Novaya Opera produced Puccini's Gianni Schicchi, Rossini's La Cenerentola, Bizet's Les pêcheurs de perles, Borodin's Prince Igor, Donizetti's L’elisir d’amore, Verdi's Nabucco, Bellini's Norma, Rossini's The Barber of Seville, Tchaikovsky's The Queen of Spades.

The cherished image of Natalya Popovich, the strength and scale of her personality will forever remain in the hearts and minds of her colleagues, students and the theatre’s workers.
