| IN LOVING MEMORY (15.05.2018). The Novaya Opera Theatre sadly announces the death of Sergey Lysenko, Honoured Artist of Russia and General Director of the theatre in 2003–2012.Sergey Lysenko will be remembered for his talent, passion, deep feeling for the destiny of the theatre, for its present and future. In 1991 he made the principle choice of his life – he had decided to follow Evgeny Kolobov and Natalya Popovich into the unknown to create a new Theatre. Sergey Lysenko was a brilliant choirmaster, who had worked on many productions, such as the Rossini musical divertissement, Catalani’s La Wally, Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin (in Kolobov’s musical version), Rubinstein’s The Demon, Verdi’s Rigoletto. At a certain moment choirmaster Sergey Lysenko easily crossed the border that for some is a serious obstacle – he became a conductor. In 2003, together with Evgeny Kolobov (posthumously) and Natalya Popovich, he was awarded the Russian State Prize for the creation of the Novaya Opera. Talented musician, Sergey Lysenko was an outstanding general director. He managed to keep fine reaction, respect for artists and, most importantly, he kept his soul of a musician and artistic personality intact. That is why when, owing to concatenation of circumstances, he had to leave the theatre, he took it tragically and was deeply aggrieved. He died quietly a few days ago. We can only be very sorry that the news of his death came way too late for unknown reasons… The cherished image of Sergey Lysenko will be imprinted in the minds and hearts of those who knew and loved him.
