Victor Gerasimenko,

Art Director of the Novaya Opera in 2001–2017. Victor Gerasimenko is an Honoured Artist of Russia, a member of the Theatrical Workers’ Union, a member of the Moscow Artists’ Union, a member of the International Academy of Information, a prize-winner of the All-Russia Drama Festival of Peoples of Russia (1980).

Victor Gerasimenko works in different genres, including scenic design for theatrical productions and concerts, easel painting and drawing. He graduated from the Ryazan Arts School in 1968 and the Leningrad State Institute of Theatre, Music and Cinematography. He worked at the Ryazan Youth Theatre, the Ryazan Drama Theatre, the Korolenko Russian Drama Theatre in Izhevsk, the Udmurt Drama Theatre, the Perm Opera and Ballet Theatre, and was a trainee at the Pushkin Academic Theatre in Leningrad. Viсtor Gerasimenko has made over 150 opera, ballet and drama productions in Russia cities, such as Perm, Kazan, Yekaterinburg, Ufa, Saratov, Izhevsk, Ryazan, Grozny and others.

The artist has been collaborating with the Novaya Opera Theatre since 1995 (in 2001, he was appointed art director of the theatre). He has designed the sets for the following productions: Verdi’s I due Foscari, Rubinstein’s The Demon, the opera mix “Bravissimo!”, the musical tribute “Maria Callas”, Valgardt’s The Cat’s House, Glinka’s Ruslan and Lyudmila, Puccini's comic opera Gianni Schicchi, Tchaikovsky's Iolanta and Offenbach's A Dinner Party with Italians (M. Choufleuri restera chez lui le…).

The Demon was given a special diploma of the Moscow Opera Festival on the occasion of the quadricentennial of the opera in the “Best Opera Production Designer” category (2000), The Cat’s House was awarded the Moscow Theatrical Festival diplomas as “the best musical performance for children” and as “the best scenic design interpretation” in the season of 2006–2007, Gianni Schicchi was given a Special Award from the musical theatre jury of the Golden Mask national theatrical prize of the 2009/2010 season.In 2011, Mr. Gerasimenko was honoured with the Moscow City Prize in literature and art in the Fine Arts category for his highly artistic design for the NO productions of Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi and Tchaikovsky’s Iolanta.

Victor Gerasimenko was also the scenic designer of important government concerts, such as “Golden Voices of Russia – to Alexander Pushkin” Gala Concert in Red Square on June 6, 1999 (conductor: Valery Gergiyev), the Gala concert of ballet stars in honour of Anna Pavlova (on the occasion of UNESCO’s 50th anniversary).
