Artyom Makarov,

Guest Conductor. Chief Conductor of the Bashkir State Opera and Ballet Theatre.
 

In 2000, Artyom Makarov got a degree with distinction in piano playing from the Zagir Ismagilov Ufa State Institute of Arts (Bashkir Honoured Artist, Prof. Alexeyeva’s class). There he continued his studies in opera and symphony conducting (People’s Artist of Bashkortostan Valery Platonov’s and Honoured Artist of Bashkortostan Alexey Lyudmilin’s class). Later he completed a two-year training course at the Moscow State Conservatory (People’s Artist of the USSR, Prof. Gennady Rozhdestvensky’s class).

 

In 1997, when still a student, Artyom Makarov started to work as an accompanist at the Bashkir State Opera and Ballet Theatre. In 2002, he was transferred to the position of a conductor. He conducted the repertoire performances and took part in all new productions of the theatre, such as Verdi’s Aida, La Traviata and Il trovatore, to name a few.

 

In 2003–2010, Artyom Makarov worked both at the Bashkir State Opera and Ballet Theatre and at the Ankara Opera House (Turkey) where he conducted the repertoire performances and took part in productions of Verdi’s Macbeth and La Traviata, Donizetti’s Don Pasquale, Mozart’s Così fan tutte and Die Entführung aus dem Serail, etc. Artyom Makarov was also a guest conductor at the Süreyya Opera House. He worked with the Çukurova State Symphony Orchestra (Adana) and the Belediyesi Senfoni Orkestrası (Eskişehir, Bursa). He also taught opera training at the Vocal Arts Department at the Anadolu University.

 

Since 2010, Artyom Makarov has been chief conductor of the Bashkir State Opera and Ballet Theatre (Ufa).

 

In Ufa, Artyom Makarov was the music director and conductor of the productions of Mozart’s Così fan tutte, Handel’s Hercules, Gounod’s Faust (Georgy Isaakyan as stage director), Bizet’s Carmen (Dmitry Belyanushkin as stage director) and Les pêcheurs de perles (Pavel Sorokin as stage director), Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Tsar’s Bride (Filipp Razenkov as stage director), Haydn’s Il mondo della luna (Elizaveta Korneyeva as stage director), Ismagilov’s Salawat Yulayev (Irkin Gabitov as stage director), two one-act ballets: Glazunov’s The Seasons and Rachmaninoff’s The Rhapsody, Lehár’s Die lustige Witwe, Offenbach’s Un mari à la porte and Monsieur Choufleuri restera chez lui le… (Vladimir Podgorodinsky as stage director). He has performed many concert programmes at the theatre. He has been conductor at international vocal competitions several times. He conducts the repertoire performances including Puccini’s Tosca and Madama Butterfly, Leoncavallo’s I Pagliacci, Tchaikovsky’s The Maid of Orleans, and Borodin’s Prince Igor to name a few.

 

In 2013–2015, he worked both at the theatre and as the music director at the Antalya State Opera and Ballet Theatre (Turkey) where he produced Mozart’s Don Giovanni (Yekta Kara as stage director) and Puccini’s La boheme (Vincenzo Grisostomi Travaglini as stage director). In September 2014, he was invited by the Antalya State Opera and Ballet Theatre to take part in the 21st International Opera and Ballet Festival in Aspendos (Turkey) where he conducted Verdi’s La Traviata.

 

In 2016, he was one of the facilitators and the co-chairman of the Fyodor Shaliapin International Vocal Competition (Ufa).
