The charm of jazz with its whimsical rhythms, bittersweet mixture of blues harmonies and improvisational freedom was so powerful and its spread so fast that it was bound to influence classical music. It was the time when a new genre of music came along, aptly named “symphonic jazz” by the American conductor and orchestra leader Paul Whiteman. At the Symphonic Jazz Kings concert you will hear pieces crossing jazz and classical music by composers of different national schools. The programme comprises: George Gershwin, Kurt Weill, Darius Milhaud, Arturo Márquez, Dmitry Shostakovich. |
