One-act ballets to music by Arnold Schoenberg and Philip Glass. premiere Conductor Alevtina Yoffe Choreographer Andrey Merkuriev Ballet Dancers Ekaterina Krysanova, Diana Kosyreva, Semyon Chudin, Kristina Kretova, Andrey Merkuriev Cello Fyodor Amosov Violin Sergey Pospelov The programme comprises two one-act ballets: The first part of the performance will premiere a one-act ballet to the music from Double Concerto for Violin and Cello (2010) by famous minimalist composer Philip GLASS. His works are emotions of “talking music” which determines the mood, choreography, plastique and evolution of a repetitive theme. Andrey Merkuriev has long wanted to combine his choreography and emotional state with music by this composer. The second premiere of the evening is a one-act ballet to Arnold SCHOENBERG’s Verklärte Nacht, op. 4 (1899). SCHOENBERG is internationally recognized as an originator of music expressionism and leader of the Second Viennese School. However, it was the romantic string sextet Verklärte Nacht (“Transfigured Night”) that got fame to the would-be “blaster” of the foundations of music and harmonies. It was inspired by the poem of German impressionist poet Richard Dehmel (from the Weib und Welt cycle). |
