Arvo Pärt is one of the few modern composers who are capable of harmoniously portraying man’s subtle state of mind. His music is both wise and simple. Estonian-born, he equally belongs to Russian and international music culture. Addressing his listener, he says:
I can positively say that the sphere of Russian speaking culture and Slavic spirituality, along with other influences, was a great motivation and an important way mark in my creative pursuit.
The listener perceives Arvo Pärt’s musical language as something long forgotten and very personal. One of his distinguished compositions is Spiegel im Spiegel, a piece that opens to those who have made an effort to make a pause and to let the music go deep into their consciousness. The title of this piece is the main title of the International Music Festival dedicated to the 80th birthday of the composer.
