| Prince Igor at the Festival in Poland (09.04.2012). On May 13, at the closing of the 19th Opera Festival in Bydgoszcz, Poland, the Novaya Opera Theatre performed its production of Prince Igor. Novaya Opera’s friends and colleagues in the Polish Opera NOVA theatre established this festival in 1994. It has since become a major cultural event in Poland and won international recognition. Every year the festival welcomes major opera houses from Poland, Russia, Bulgaria, Belarus, Ukraine, Lithuania, Latvia, Belgium, France, Sweden, USA, Cube and other countries. The performance in Opera NOVA of Novaya Opera’s production of Borodin’s Prince Igor, directed by Yuri Alexandrov and Vyacheslav Okunev, was a grand and worthy ending to the International Opera Festival in Bydgoszcz. The large-tonnage sets that the theatre brought to the festival represent walls of houses and brickwork arches, a belfry, marquees, chariots and carts, cannons and a throne. The numerous properties comprise weapons, Oriental pitchers, goblets, church utensils, icons, flags, etc. The production engages over 100 actors who use an enormous number of impressive, artfully made costumes! Novaya Opera’s tour in Poland was an important event that introduced the Polish public to Russian opera and history, adding more glory to the interesting and eventful programme of the festival. . The cast included Andjey Beletsky (Prince Igor), Evgeny Stavinsky (Prince of Galich), Vladimir Kudashev (Konchak), Aleksey Tatarintsev (Vladimir Igorevich), Oleg Didenko (Skula), Maxim Ostroukhov (Eroshka), Marat Gareyev (Ovlur), Elena Popovskaya (Yaroslavna), Agunda Kulaeva (Konchakovna), Natalya Borozdina (Nurse), Victoria Shevtsova (Polovtsian Girl). Conductor – Honoured Artist Evgeny Samoilov.
